M27 Dumbbell Nebula

M27 was clearly visible without a filter; the Lumicon Oxygen III filter markedly increased contrast and made the dumbbell shape much more prominent.

Observation notes

M27 stood out clearly even without a filter. With the Lumicon Oxygen III filter, the contrast increased markedly and the characteristic dumbbell shape became much more prominent. Several stars could still be distinguished against the nebulosity.

Visual documentation

Photographic documentation of M27 at the time of observation — **Photographic documentation.** The image was captured through the telescope with a Nikon D6 at the time of observation and subsequently processed to approximate the object's visual appearance at the eyepiece. For this type of documentation, a single exposure of approximately 10–15 seconds is normally used.

Object location in the sky

Visible above the southern horizon around midnight in August.M27 is marked in Vulpecula. The chart shows the object's astronomical position and nearby constellation lines in the J2000 coordinate system.
